August 25, 2008- First Day of School!

Oh man! Summer is over and today is the first day of school. Mr. Kootman greeted us at the door and we found our nametags on the floor. We learned that every student will have his or her own number in our class. When everyone was ready, Mr. Kootman explained that some things in the classroom are tools and some are toys. We have a really cool Smartboard, which is like an electronic white board. This is definitely a tool!

After that, we learned about being responsible and taking ownership in the “Above the Line Chart.” Then we had a break where we played Autograph Bingo. Autograph Bingo is when people sign your paper if they have done certain things, such as having a dog.

All of a sudden, it began to rain for the first time in months! Luckily, we still got to go to recess. After recess, we learned about our new class blog and took notes. Then we talked about our homework and received a lot of papers for our parents to sign.

Next, we went to lunch where they served corndogs and quesadillas. At 1:05 we read Room One, by Andrew Clements. This book is about a boy named Ted who likes to solve mysteries.

Finally, we switched in to math mode, where we studied place value. We learned there are three ways to write a number: word form, standard form and expanded form. At last, we got our bags and headed out.

The story was nice!I think that the story was so detailed that i'm sure lots of other people will love it too! It is very interesting (well to me it is )!I liked the way that the person that wrote " Room One" was included . This story make's people want to read more when they read the first sentence! When I saw that you did'nt use the same word on evry beginning of each sentence that made me impressed (very)! I't is very nice to know most of the things that you've done ! When it said," Then we switched to math mode." that made me think that:" Hey , that's kind of cool to say it that way." I have never thought to say something like it said in the story:"then we switched to math mode."and there on.

WOW!!!!! The pools are all long gone. And its begining to get a little cold. That must mean that school is going to begin!!!! On the 1st of day school my bus was very late so I had to hurry up and get my classroom. The 1st thing my
teacher was say HELLO!!!! We found our name tags on the floor. Then
we started to color them. After, that we found out what the rules out and the Above The Line Chart.
We, also figured out what are #s are. I'm # 2. Then, we found whats a tool and whats a toy. Mr.Kootman told us what the totally cool Smart Board is. After that we played Autograph Bingo. That is when you go around the class and ask people if like.....if you have 2 or more dogs or cats. Then we looked outside and it was RAINING!!!!!!!!! Then we went to recess. When we did alot of more math until lunch. Finally, we went to lunch. I brought my lunch thow.
When we came back in we started to
talked about our blogs. After that we started get ready to pack up and go home.

Katelyn,
Your response to the first posting was way above a fourth grade level. I didn't even teach you how to do that yet! Way to go. I'll be sure to refer to that when I teach other students.
